I think it has been well established that breakfast is the preferred meal for many food bloggers. I must add that I am not an exception to this stereotype.
Following the trend one of my favorite wake-me-up meals is a big bowl of overnight oats. The possibilities are just endless due to the shear variety of mixin’s and toppings that can accompany the main star: oats.

In all honesty my big bowl of oatmeal has become a big bowl of … something else. A Big Bowl of Breakfast (B to the power of 3) Each bowl generally uses the same base ingredients (left in fridge overnight after mixing)…

Base ingredients all mixed together. See below 'menu' for the list.
You know the nice frozen yogurt stores where you can choose your what you want mixed into the base, and then choose your toppings? Well my breakfast is quite a bit like that. Here is the main menu:

Sometimes I replace the instant hot cereal with 1/4 cup oats, they are essentially equivalent nutrition wise, other then the massive protein count (12 g/ 2 tbsp) in the instant hot cereal!

The base ingredient ‘maple crunch’ in the above menu is actually quite important. It’s the “Smaps” cereal I got in my order. I don’t know why I called it maple crunch in my ingredient list…oops.
The mixin’s and toppin’s is where I expand my creativity. Take for instance the greek yogurt icing as a topping.

The brown one is: cherry chocolate greek yogurt icing (greek yogurt, cherry yoplait source yogurt, unsweetened cocoa powder).
The white one is: lemon maple greek yogurt icing (greek yogurt, lemon yoplait source yogurt, maple extract).
One of my favorite bowls thus far had crushed walnuts mixed into the base and was topped with the cherry chocolate greek yogurt icing + frozen cranberries.

This Big Bowl of Breakfast is so much more exciting then the toast, peanut butter, and yogurt I was having a few months ago!

Do you like to change up your breakfast when the seasons change? What are your favorite or most creative mixins or toppins for oatmeal/cereal?

Breakfast is definitely the best meal of the day! A bowl of oatmeal and a cup of coffee are the reasons I get out of bed in the morning
The seasons don’t really affect my breakfasts, ’cause I still crave hot oats in the summer and overnight oats in the winter… just depends on what I’m feeling that particular day. And my favorite mixins are bananas and egg whites, and for toppings I’m gonna have to go for almond butter and pudding as being my favorite. The most creative ones I’ve ever tried would probably be avocado and jam. Unique, but tasty!
I always look SO forward to breakfast time!! I don’t think my morning would be complete without a visit from Mr. Oatmeal. Your oats recipe sounds so incredible, I gotta give it a whirl one of these mornings!
My all-time favorite topping for my oats is definitely any nut butter–I love it when it gets all melty and gloopy in the hot oats mmm
Breakfast is hands down THE best meal of the day. I could eat breakfast for every meal. I do change my breakfasts a little depending on the weather like I don’t want a big bowl of hot oatmeal on 100* day! I love your photographs by the way
what do you use for your collages?
oh goodness. I am a breakfast lover. This might be a breakfast or dinner meal for me. Delicious!
Breakfast is definitely my favorite meal! I’ll probably change it up a lot more once I’m out of school and actually have time to prepare a decent breakfast. A lot of times my breakfast just depends on how much time I have. Though seriously I usually just have a yogurt mess for breakfast and a yogurt mess for dessert because I’m obsessed with them
OMG your pictures have improved so much since the start of the blog! You are becoming quite a photographer! Jealous! I am not a cereal fan, I usually just have spK in my yogurt and berries in the morning
Thanks so much! Special K I used to have it often, but I’ve gotten a bit tired of it! It’s great for a fast tasty and convenient breakfast though
Your pictures are amazing, I love the way you combine them.
Breakfast is definitely my favorite meal, and it tends to stay the same. Oatmeal with nut butters, fruit, and granola in some form.

I legit have oatmeal (baked, raw, in a jar, etc) everyday! I always need some yogurt and a huge amount of fruit too! can’t go wrong with seeds and nuts though
Awesome breakfast tribute
Breakfast is pretty great and I really like you B to the power of 3 idea!
I really need to try this combo. I love mixed breakfasts for some reason- the more components, the better!! Thanks for posting the recipe. I’ll give it a try!!
I love combining cereal with yogurt. and I also love huge yogurt messes with multiple types of fruit (especially nectarines!)
