I know I was impressed with my first Alligator Stew (ie. green monster), but this version had twice as much volume, and twice as much tastiness.
Unfortunately with the extra volume it didn’t fit in my Magic Bullet. Meaning this bad boy was also twice as torturous to make, and made twice as much mess.

Those dirty kleenexes in the background? Yeah, thats alligator snot
As a result of extra frothy-ness and volume I had to make it in two parts, then mix it together. The magic bullet wouldn’t bullet (ie. blend) anything because it was so thick and frothy! Grrrr… I definitely need to find a better blender!
I finally managed to find Xanthan Gum. Wow, this stuff was expensive! But definitely worth it!
My plan was to follow Mariah’s instructions for her Protein “Frosty” however with the magic bullet malfunction I had to resort to my own experiments:
- Added 1 scoop of chocolate protein powder, 3/4 cup unsweetened almond breeze, one massive spinach handful. BLEND
- Added 1/4 of silken tofu package (I saw this on Emma’s blog, and really wanted to try it!), lot of ice chunks, heaping 5ml of Xanthan Gum BLEND
- Added another massive spinach handful (probably a cup), frozen strawberries, and frozen cranberries. BLEND

- I had to separate out the frozen berries, blend them, then pour them on top of the spinach protein powder mix. And manually hand stir
- Topped with puffed kamut, and drizzle with runny PB2 and sugar free maple syrup

I topped it with some more frozen cranberries when I got near the bottom, and enjoyed sitting in the sun brainstorming

I used to have a magic bullet, but when it broke, I got a simple black and decker from Target. It works well and I dont have any major complaints; the price was totally reasonable too!
I was very sad when my magic bullet quit! I ended up getting another small blender like it for $20 and so far it’s working… but I haven’t tried to make a monster as thick as yours
I use a good old fashion giant tiger blender, and you are not messy at all. my kitchen is much worse. thankfully me and my bf have a deal I cook and he cleans
I love my Bullet! I use it pretty much on a daily basis to make smoothies, grind flours, make cookie dough balls, and grind coffee.. But sometimes I just gotta whip out the big boy for the messier jobs… and that’s when I break the Vitamix out of the cupboards. I swear that thing could liquify a chunk of wood…
Wowza! At least all your hard work paid off.
I used to loathe smoothies because I didn’t think they would be filling but green smoothies fill me up without weighing me down.
I have the magic bullet, but I never used it. I didn’t like it! I use the oster beehive and it’s pretty much my best friend. I used it today to make a cherry smoothie and it was huge and there were no ice chunks, which used to be a major problem for me!
i’ve been dying to try xanthan gum! looks so thick and delicious! all i have is a small smoothie blender
